how can we help tics and tourette's effectively?

The Comprehensive Behavior Intervention for Tics (CBIT) program is a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and habit reversal training that consists of weekly 1-1 virtual sessions. The goal is to significantly reduce tics and the associated symptoms that accompany tics in a short amount of time

CBIT is a non-medicated treatment consisting of three important components:
1) Becoming more aware of your tics and the urge to tic
2) Training to do competing behavior when they feel the urge to tic
3) Making changes to day to day activities in ways that can be helpful in reducing tics

This approach will significantly increase confidence and advocacy skills along with strategies to reduce sensory hypersensitivities, anxiety, and co-morbidities such as OCD, ADHD, and sleep issues.

We recommend this CBIT program for individuals older than 7 years old. Family members will play a part in the CBIT program as well.

more about CBIT therapy

CBIT is now the gold standard of treatment for Tics and Tourette's and the only therapy intervention program that is proven to significantly reduce tics (and in some cases, eliminate the tic)! Tics can cause a lot of distress on individuals. At Play to Learn Therapy, our therapists see the 'whole picture' to address the psychological, sensory, and behavioral difficulties that come along with tics.

Studies show that the people who undergo CBIT program have a reduction in tic severity and significantly improve their mental health and their ability to complete every day activities.

Individuals can expect to learn evidence-based cognitive therapy, management skills, functional interventions, and 'habit reversal training' that they can apply for the rest of their life!
