how can we help tics and tourette's effectively?

The Comprehensive Behavior Intervention for Tics (CBIT) program is a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and habit reversal training that consists of weekly 1-1 video chat sessions. The goal is to significantly reduce tics and the associated symptoms in a short amount of time. The virtual CBIT program is ideally for children older than 7 years.

CBIT is a non-medicated treatment consisting of three important components:
1) Becoming more aware of your tics and the urge to tic
2) Training to do competing behavior when they feel the urge to tic
3) Making changes to day to day activities in ways that can be helpful in reducing tics

Throughout the program, you will learn strategies to increase confidence and advocacy skills along with strategies to reduce sensory hypersensitivities, anxiety, and co-morbidities such as OCD, ADHD, and sleep issues.

more about CBIT therapy

We are occupational therapists specialized in working with children, teens, and even adults with Tic disorders and Tourette Syndrome. We are certified in the only therapy intervention program that is proven to significantly reduce tics. As you may know, tics are usually just one piece of a complicated puzzle. People with tics often have psychological, sensory, and behavioral challenges as well. We will work as a team to put all the pieces of the puzzle together, so you can start living life fully and more confidently. As mentioned above, all sessions are completed over a video chat program, so you have access to therapy wherever you are!

Studies show that the people who undergo CBIT program (~10-week program dependent on needs) will have reductions in tic severity and significant improvement in ability to complete everyday life activities.
